Salka Sólberg is a conceptual multi media artist working with installation based in Reykjavik, Iceland. She's primarily inspired by personal experiences and memories. Her final works rarely resemble the original inspiration, they transforms into the 3d, usually alluding to a function or purpose. A defining feature of much of Salka's work is its intangibility- it is usual not to be able to physically hold her works; rather than an object, they are fleeting experiences.
A new work often begins with something grabbing her; sometimes the inspiration has been brewing inside her for some time, surfacing when the time's right. Her approach is intuitive; she often doesn't know exactly what it will become until it's in progress or after it's finished. The conceptual focus tends to be on the material and its role within the work.
Research is central to Salka's process; she enjoys reading about other artists, discovering new things, and speaking to people to ask questions like "what do you know about this?" Her work is strongly tied to memory and experience, but material plays an equally important role.
